10 PLA+ Spools for 99€ // How good is the GST3D PLA+

Ten kilograms of PLA+ for 99 euros, shipping included? Everyone on Instagram was talking about it in May 2021, so I tested GST3D's PLA+ across several printers. It prints like the 20-euro spools I usually buy.

Packaging and a pleasant surprise

GST3D is a European company based in Spain, and they kindly sent me three spools: a fluorescent green, a vivid red and a plain white. At roughly half the price of average PLAs, I was really curious.

Every spool was double vacuum sealed. A resealable bag would have been nice, but at that price it's a great service. The spools seem to be made of recyclable or recycled plastic, which is good for the environment, and the winding was decent. When I weighed one, it came out about 300 g over a kilo. I really doubt the empty spool weighs 300 g, so there seems to be more than a kilo of filament.

Different colours, different temperatures

Each colour had its own sweet spot: white around 205 °C, green 210 °C, red 200 °C. Otherwise it prints just like regular PLA.

What I printed

I used several printers. In white, on the Sidewinder X1, I printed "Passing Through", a model I bought on Cults, which I plan to glue together and paint. No layer shifts, just like a premium white PLA. In fluorescent green, my 3D Print Geek maker's test cube came out flawless, along with my usual storage box in vase mode (0.8 width, nice and firm). The colour is hard to capture on camera but lovely in person. A small robot by the designer Dunder Drucker came out great in red.

Also in red: an octopus printed on my Flyingbear Ghost (review coming at the time), and a shipping-container box with an opening door. My five-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, had started asking about anatomy, so I printed a skull with a brain in white and red to show them where the brain sits. It came out flawless.
