I had to make this video before the spools ran out, because I'd printed almost all of them. AzureFilm's Champagne, Anthracite and Galaxy Black PLA all have a subtle sparkle, and together they became my Christmas colours for 2021.
A European filament I trust
AzureFilm is a Slovenian company based very close to the Italian border, so this is a fully European filament. I love how they prepare their spools: every box has a sticker, so when they're stacked I can find the one I want immediately. The winding is excellent, they have a long history in spooling, and their quality-to-price ratio is one of the best I've found.
Three colours that match
- Champagne: a warm colour with a little sparkle. I think it's slightly silky. My first vase in it, on the CR-10 Smart, came out very nice, and a detailed lion head looked great too.
- Anthracite: a sparkling metallic grey I'd never tried before. The effect on prints was unexpected. A filament astronaut in it looks like a real astronaut with space colours. I used so much of it that the spool is nearly finished, which has probably never happened in a review before.
- Galaxy Black: if someone asked me what colour it is, I wouldn't say black. I'd say deep, like space. The name is spot on. I printed one of Ivan's vases in it, part of the collection that gives my classic living room a modern touch.
I tested all three on the CR-10 Smart (now fixed and working great) and my Sidewinder X1. Both were perfect at around 212 °C with a 60 °C bed, and vase mode with a 0.4 mm nozzle pushed to 0.8 mm caused no issues at all.
A three-day desk organiser
The piece I'm most proud of is an engineer's desk organiser that took three days to print, one of the longest prints I've ever done and one of the most useful things I've made. It has a spot for a mug warmer, phone charging, pencils and 3D printing tools, my hard drives with video footage, a calliper, and slots for USB, SD and microSD cards, plus drawers. I started it in Galaxy Black, switched to Anthracite partway up so I didn't use all the black, and printed the base and inserts in Champagne. The three colours look amazing together.
