A wood filament arrived, so the nozzle had to go. This super-simple April 2021 tutorial shows how I swap the nozzle on my Artillery Sidewinder X1, and it works the same way on the Genius.
What you need
A replacement nozzle (I used a stainless steel nozzle I'd already used before, the one I keep for printing wood), a 7 mm socket, and a wrench or similar tool to hold the heater block still while you unscrew.
Step by step
- Heat the nozzle to printing temperature. The swap is done hot.
- Retract or remove a bit of the filament.
- Hold the heater block steady with the wrench so you don't twist it or strain the wires.
- Unscrew the old nozzle with the socket, slowly but without wasting time. Everything gets hot very fast, so be careful not to burn yourself. My original brass nozzle was still fine, so I kept it to clean later.
- Screw in the new nozzle. When it starts to get tight, hold the block again with the wrench and finish tightening.
- Put the silicone sock back on.
- Test it: load some filament and check that it extrudes properly.
- Re-level the bed. Nozzles have different lengths, so your first-layer height will have changed.
That's all. It takes a few minutes and then you're ready to print with the new nozzle.
