Best Budget MONOPOD for VideoMakers in 2020

An essential piece of gear I somehow never owned: a monopod. In 2019 Tarion sent me their A-222, and after a couple of hours in the field I was in love.

My first monopod

I'll be honest, this was the first time I'd ever used one. I don't know if it's this monopod or the concept in general, but it made my job about ten times easier. In the video I do a quick unboxing, take it out to test, then come back with my thoughts.

Build quality

It's made of aluminium and good-quality rubber, and you can feel it. It's firm and trustworthy in your hand (and the locks make a really satisfying sound). Once it's locked, I left my a6500 on top without worrying it might fall. That matters a lot when it's your first time.

It's light and easy to use, so I was planning to use it at my next weddings instead of a tripod. It also works with my Insta360: place it, hit record, and see what comes out.

Price and what's missing

At the time it cost about €51, roughly $60. After a few hours in the field: yes, good value for money.

Two things to know. First, it doesn't come with a head. I mounted my Joby head to make it work. Second, I'd love it to be a bit taller. I'm 1.95 m, and it's about 160 cm, around 180 with the head. Another 10–15 cm would be perfect for me. I'd also have liked to adjust it with my foot while it stands on the ground, but that may be my inexperience talking.
