At the end of 2020, when everyone suddenly needed a webcam to work from home, I tested what was probably the cheapest best-selling 1080p webcam on Amazon: the Wansview, on sale for under €20.
What you get
The box is simple: a manual and the camera. It's plug and play over USB, and I tried it on both my Mac and my PC: both worked perfectly. It has a 90-degree field of view with a little bit of fisheye, a sturdy, flexible clip for a laptop or monitor, and a very long cable, handy if you want to connect it to a TV. There's no tripod mount.
Video: 10. Audio: 6.
The video is extremely good: 1080p, brilliant colours, and a level of detail above any webcam I'd owned before. It's perfect for Zoom, Skype, Teams or whatever you use for video calls.
The microphone is supposed to be noise-cancelling, but after a couple of tests it's not as brilliant as the video. It's okay for streaming, but no more. My suggestion: use this camera for video and your laptop's internal mic or an external microphone for audio. That's a really good starting setup.
Verdict
For the price it's amazing, a great compromise compared with Logitech and the other high-end webcams. In that 2020 emergency, when everybody needed a camera to stream or work from home like I was, it was a perfect, cheap solution. (2020 also went by so fast that my creativity hit its lowest point, but I promised to come back in 2021 with new ideas!)
