I'm addicted to coffee, and I'm addicted to watching people make it. In the summer of 2018 I launched #CoffeeBRollFreaks: an open invitation to creators around the world to film their coffee ritual and build one big montage together.
Coffee b-roll, everywhere
I've watched so many b-roll sequences of people making coffee, many of them inspired by Peter McKinnon (I was inspired by him too). I watch them like a kid watching cartoons. I love the different techniques, the different editing styles, and above all the different ways coffee is prepared around the world.
Here in Italy alone there are at least a dozen kinds of coffee: espresso, cappuccino, mochaccino, latte macchiato, caffè freddo... I could go on for hours.
The idea
YouTube gives us the incredible possibility of connecting creators from all over the planet. Who knows how many ways of making coffee are out there? So I launched the hashtag #CoffeeBRollFreaks. The plan was simple:
Film a short b-roll of yourself making coffee. In the description, write where you're from and what kind of coffee you're preparing. Post it with the hashtag and share it on social media. Then, about a month later, we'd review everything and put it together into one unique montage of the best coffee making from around the world.
A crazy idea? Maybe. But it was a fun way to collaborate as small creators, under the #NoSmallCreator spirit of the time.
