How does the Sony a6500 handle a dim photo set? Back in 2017 I filmed a low-light photoshoot session to find out.
The setup
This short clip is a behind-the-scenes look at a photoshoot with photographer Fabio Mancini and model Federica De Virgilio. The light on set was low, which made it the perfect test for my camera. I shot everything on the Sony a6500 with the 18-105mm lens at ISO 5000 and f/4, with the camera on my Zhiyun Crane V2 gimbal.
Why low light matters
Most real shoots don't happen in perfect light. Indoor sets, evenings and events push a camera to high ISO, and that's where noise usually shows up. This session was my first chance to see how far I could push the a6500. I liked the result so much that I mentioned it again in my one-year review of the camera.
