2018 Rewind - The Best of my First year on YouTube

My first year on YouTube in under three minutes. Back for "season two" in January 2019 after a two-week break, I looked back at 2018: 3,000 subscribers, 100K views and 40 videos.

High expectations, zero awareness

2018 started with very high expectations and a total lack of awareness of how much effort it would take to reach my goals. It was the year I started learning from other creators: copying, modifying, personalising and slowly building my own style. It was also the year I bought my first drone.

The highlights

I found a solution to a very annoying drone problem, working with a couple of creators and a 3D printer operator, and shared it with everyone. I had fun playing like a kid with a drone-loving friend, sharing what I know about cinematic shooting. I took part in the most insane YouTube collaboration, #TheUnboxingProject, while constantly struggling for time between work and the kids. I finished a huge project, my entire life in five minutes. I experimented with "remote travel vlogging", tried to help save the internet from Article 13, and shot, edited and directed my first music video. It was far more tiring than I expected. Then I tried daily vlogging and, no surprise, gave up after three days.

The numbers

By the end of the year I had 3,000 subscribers, 40 videos uploaded and 100,000 views. I wasn't expecting any of it. Remember, my goal a year earlier was 2,000 subscribers. Thank you, because none of this would have been possible without you.
