At the end of April 2020, DJI launched the Mavic Air 2 and everyone was hyped. I understood why. But reading through the specs a couple of hours after the launch, I found some things I didn't like, so I decided not to buy it, at least not right away.
Launch-day hype
A new DJI drone is always an event, and the Mavic Air 2 came after a long wait. Within hours, the internet was full of excitement. I get it: it was a big step forward for DJI's mid-range line. But I've learned over the years not to jump on a drone on day one just because everyone else is.
Three reasons to wait
In this video I go through my top three reasons for not buying the Mavic Air 2 at launch, all based on the specs DJI had published. They're the kind of details that don't make the headlines on launch day but matter once you're flying it every week. Watch the video for the full list, and tell me if you agree.
This wasn't a review. I hadn't flown it. It was my honest first reaction to the spec sheet in spring 2020, and as always, the real verdict would come from people actually using it.
