A short film about a place I grew up around: MAPRI, the Archaeological Museum Ribezzo in my hometown of Brindisi. I made it for some friends, for free, because this museum deserved a video.
Why I made it
I shot this video in 2016 and only got round to sharing it on my channel in the summer of 2017. Nobody paid me for it. Some friends asked, and I said yes straight away, because the museum is in Brindisi, my city, and I've always felt it gets far less attention than it deserves.
It's a short piece, under three minutes, meant to give you a feel for the place before you visit it yourself.
A city with a very long memory
People often pass through Brindisi on their way to a ferry or a beach and never stop. That's a shame. Long before it was a port for ferries to Greece, it was Brundisium, one of the most important harbours of the Roman world and the end point of the Appian Way. Before the Romans, this land belonged to the Messapii. A museum like this one is where all those layers come together, and it's the best way I know to understand why this city exists where it does.
