September 2018: back from three weeks of holidays in Greece with the family, still on leave and sitting by a swimming pool. This is a confessional about the eternal fight between what you have to do and what you'd love to do.
Have-to-dos vs want-to-dos
It was the 17th of September and summer was over everywhere except the south of Italy. You hadn't seen me for a while because I'd been in Greece with the family. In my experience, about 90% of the time what you have to do and what you'd love to do don't match. When you have a family, the have-to-dos win. It's a continuous struggle against time.
The have-to-dos are things your family relies on and that you can't avoid, especially with twins. With one child you might get away with skipping some. I only had time to film this because the kids were at kindergarten and my wife had gone back to work. In the days before, it was all paperwork for kindergarten, vaccine bookings and things like that. It works the same way at work: there are things you have to do, and things you'd like to do but have no time for.
A family holiday, a sore throat
I really loved spending all that time with the kids. Halfway through the holiday I got sick with a bad sore throat, then the kids got it too, so we came back a day early. Still, it was okay. At two years old the twins are starting to understand things, although the whinging was driving us a bit crazy. Next year, when they're three, I think it'll be fun. They'll be little people you can talk to, and I can't wait to put a camera in their hands so they can help me with what I love.
Sometimes life is boring
Honestly, I didn't know where this video was going or what to title it. But I knew I had to make it. I want to vlog about my life, and sometimes life is boring. That's a risk I'm willing to take.
