I love my SANSI solar pool light, but on our above-ground pool it was about 10 cm too short to sit fully underwater. So I did what a 3D-printing geek does: I designed and printed an extension.
The problem
I reviewed this light in a previous video, at my parents' in-ground pool. On my own pool, the structure around the edge is deeper. The light is roughly 35 cm long, and I was missing another 10–15 cm, so it didn't fully submerge. Luckily, the light has a long cable, so I thought about designing a part that fits the pool structure and is strong enough to hold an extension.
Design and printing
I measured, designed the part and ran test prints. One lesson: don't print the final part in PLA or PETG. I used them only to check the tolerances. For the real one, go for ABS. Once it finished printing, I removed the supports. The first fit wasn't perfect, but after a quick adjustment it clicked into place, and it's a big improvement.
Testing
A double tap on the button, and the remote worked straight away: on, off, colours, fading. The whole pool is lit, in green, blue and red. Mission accomplished. You can download the STL file from the video description if you have the same problem.
