No electrician, no drilling, no wiring. At my parents' place, all the lights in their old pool were broken, so I tested the SANSI Solar RGB pool light, a 90-euro gadget. It ended up brighter than the 300-euro hardwired light my neighbour has.
What's in the box
The big thing about this light is that it doesn't need a cable. A solar panel charges it, and SANSI promises at least 8 hours of light. In the box you get the light, a magnetic plate, a tube of glue gel to fix the plate to the pool edge, a remote control, and reusable zip ties for mounting it on an above-ground pool.
Key features
It uses 36 LEDs (red, green and blue) through a 150° ultra-wide beam. My parents' pool is 8 × 4 m, and there wasn't a single spot, top or bottom, that wasn't lit. SANSI says one light does the job of two, and from what I saw, that's true. During the day the panel charges a 4,000 mAh battery. After a run of cloudy days, you can top it up through the USB-C port with any phone charger or power bank (cable not included). You can lift it off the magnet and charge it indoors.
Installation is very easy: on an in-ground pool with a 90° edge, it just leans there. My parents haven't decided on the best corner yet, so we haven't glued the plate. The remote offers 20 colours and modes (solid, smooth transition, flashing and fading), with a 20 m range. If you lose the remote, and let's be honest you will, there's a button on the light: double tap for on/off, single press to cycle colours. It's IP68, fully sealed and made for all weather. I'm leaving it outside for a few weeks to see how it holds up.
Things to know before you buy
- The first activation needs a double tap on the light before the remote will pair. It's easy to miss in the instructions. Charge it fully, wait until dark, double tap, then pair.
- AAA batteries for the remote aren't included.
- Larger pools (around 24–27 ft) will probably need the two-pack. For a normal pool, one is plenty.
- Solar performance varies in low-sun climates, so the USB-C backup is genuinely useful.
Verdict
An electrician rewiring a pool and fitting two new lights would cost around 300–400 euros. For 89–90 euros, you're set, and SANSI really delivers what it promises: lots of light, zero running cost and a three-second magnetic install. If your pool looks horrible at night, it's a no-brainer.
