Day 3 of my one-week daily vlogging challenge in December 2018, and I used it to tell you about my city. Brindisi, in Apulia, in the south of Italy. I used to hate it. Now I love it. You need to come and visit, at least once in your life.
From hate to love
I'll be honest: there was a time when I couldn't wait to leave Brindisi. Like many people from the south, I saw everything that didn't work here, from local politics to lost opportunities. Then I lived far away from it, and I came back. Seeing it again with fresh eyes changed everything. This video, a few days before Christmas, is my attempt to explain why.
A city worth stopping in
Brindisi is usually a place people pass through: they land at the airport, or they catch a ferry to Greece, and off they go to the rest of Apulia. But the city itself has a beautiful waterfront, an old town, a natural harbour that has shaped its history since Roman times, and a rhythm of life that's hard to find in big cities.
It isn't perfect, and I'm not going to pretend it is. But it has huge potential, and I think it deserves more love from those who visit and from those who run it. If you're planning a trip to Apulia, put Brindisi on the list and give it a day.
