A surprise bachelor party for a friend who is a brother to me: two days in the mountains, a river, a raft and a lot of shouting. My first travel vlog of 2018, and the first time I'd been away from my family since my twins were born.
The plan (he knew nothing)
Gianluca was getting married very soon, and I had the pleasure of organising his bachelor party. My idea was simple: take him rafting. I started this vlog in the car, waiting for a friend, before we drove around to pick up the rest of the group. The groom still didn't know anything. All he knew was that we were going somewhere.
That "somewhere" was the Lao river in Calabria, where we went rafting with the team at Rafting Lao. We drove about 300 kilometres in the end, and finally arrived in the middle of the mountains. We had dinner, went to our apartments and tried to get some rest, because the next morning started early. Sorry about the audio in those evening clips: I was tired and it shows.
On the river
I'll let the footage do the talking here, because most of the rafting part of the video is just images and music. It was amazing and it was beautiful. Paddling down a river with your best friends, getting soaked and laughing the whole way, is the kind of thing you remember for years.
Afterwards we were dead tired. Even after sleeping for a couple of hours, everyone was still recovering, and the only plan left was food. Probably meat, probably a barbecue. That's a proper bachelor party in the south of Italy.
Back in the car
I started this video in the car, so I finished it in the car too. It was an exciting weekend. I hadn't had one like that in a really, really long time. But I missed my family, and I was happy to be going home. I also couldn't wait to edit, because I knew the footage was good. Gianluca loved it, and we all loved it. I hope the video gives you a little of the feeling we had out there.
A big thank you to MariaRosaria and Raffo at Rafting Lao for looking after us.
